Norma "Yolanda" Frey, 65, of Archer, Florida, a former Indianapolis resident passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida.
Born October 20, 1945, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, she was the daughter of Sophia Alvarez. She married Thomas J. Frey on May 9, 1982, and he survives.
Other survivors include her sons, Yanko Fuentes of Long Island, New York and Vernon VanVleet of Danville, Indiana; daughters, Mara Jessica (husband, John) Basey of Greenfield and Gloria (husband, Jerry) Mullins of Leesburg, Ohio; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother and sister, Gloria Alvarez.
Mrs. Frey was formerly employed at General Aviation Electronic in Indianapolis from 1980 to 1982; Pepe's Mexican Restaurant in Castleton from 1980 to 1983 and was banquet manager at North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh, North Carolina from 1985 to 1987.
She was a loving wife, devoted mother and enjoyed spending time with her family. Yolanda enjoyed cooking, gardening, painting, crocheting and knitting making a blanket for each member of her family.
Mrs. Frey was an avid bowler and loved to play darts.
She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Indianapolis, the Latin Club in Gainesville, Florida, the Dart Association in Alachua County, Florida and a former member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #7119 at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 pm, Sunday, August 7, 2011 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 11 am, Monday, August 8, 2011 at the funeral home, with Pastor Perry Meade officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Gainesville.
