Norman Gene Theobald

Norman Gene Theobald, 88, of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born December 12, 1924, in Union Township, Shelby County, Indiana. Norman was the son of Harry H. and Carrie Faye (Macy) Theobald. He married Elizabeth Ann Ivie on May 25, 1949, and she preceded him in death on June 8, 2008. Norman is survived by his sons, Michael Gene (wife, Deborah Sue) Theobald and Tony Allen Theobald, both of Shelbyville; daughter, Teresa Kay (husband, Tony) Putty of Shelbyville; daughter-in-law, Judy Theobald of Manilla; grandchildren, Shelley McMichael, Michael Theobald Jr., Bryon Theobald, Dana Essex, Amber Franklin, Sarah Holtz, Jason Theobald, Austin Theobald and Toni Lynn Vaught; 20 great-grandchildren and one on the way. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gary Lee Theobald; and brothers, Lowell Theobald and Joe Theobald. Norman graduated from Manilla High School in 1942. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II and was stationed in Alaska. Norman was a farmer, had been a truck driver and the plant manager of a fertilizer company for 15 years. He was a politician having served as Union Township Trustee and Shelby County Auditor. Norman was a member of the Little Blue River Baptist Church, Morristown Masonic Lodge and a past member of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and mowing grass. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2013 at the funeral home, with the Revs. Bob Langdon and Mark Dodd officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the local military committee. Interment will be in Bennett Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Little Blue River Baptist Church, 3515 N. 500 E., Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
