Odetta M. Nay, 97, of Edinburgh, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus.
She was born May 26, 1917 in Shelby County, the daughter of the late Samus and Pearl (Pile) Mohr. On January 30, 1944, she married Paul Nay, and he preceded her in death on March 11, 1988.
Odetta is survived by her daughters, Karen Nay and Charlotte Nay, both of Edinburgh; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Dale Mohr, John Mohr and Kenneth Mohr; and sisters, Lela Pruitt, Florence Mohr and Mildred McDonald.
Odetta graduated from Mount Auburn High School in 1935.
She joined the Mount Auburn Christian Church at the age of 12 years. Odetta was a Sunday school teacher. She read the Bible every morning, when she was able.
Odetta formerly cooked at Mount Auburn School and the Cambridge Inn, in addition to helping her husband on the farm.
She enjoyed working word search and crossword puzzles. She also loved cats.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2015 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the funeral home, with the Pastors Phil Farnsley and Brian Scott officiating.
Interment will be at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Shelby County.
