Oriena Thompson, 97, of Shelbyville passed away Monday, October 20, 2008, at Waldron Health and Rehab Center, where she had resided for the past two months.
Born January 25, 1911, in Olathe, Kansas, she was the daughter of Frank and Laura Rose. In 1919, she was adopted by Geroge and Lourilla Walton of Shelbyville. She married Joe H. Bonner on November 12, 1939 and he preceded her in death in 1944. She married Merritt E. Thompson on October 10, 1965 and he preceded her in death in 1985.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda (husband, Jim) Brown of Manilla, and her son, Dennis Bonner of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Byron (wife, Elise) Brown of Indianapolis, Jennifer (husband, Floyd) Hastings of Shelbyville, Jason (wife, Shannon) Brown of Shelbyville, Kimberley (husband, Tim) Rumple of Shelbyville; great-grandchildren, Tyler Combs, Trevor Combs, Jameson Brown, Nathan Rumple and Allison Rumple, all of Shelbyville, Chase Brown and Olivia Brown of Indianapolis.
Mrs. Thompson had been employed at the Woolworth store, Shelby Oil Company, Indiana Cash Drawer and The Browse About, all former Shelbyville businesses.
She graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1929.
Mrs. Thompson was a member of Shelbyville First United Methodist Church. She was a charter member of Omega Nu Tau Sorority. For several years after retirement, she enjoyed serving as a part-time volunteer at the Major Hospital Gift Shop. In addition, she delighted in following the activities of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Thursday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 11 am, Friday at the funeral home, with Rev. Robert Campbell officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
