Orville Sullivan Branson, 73, of Shelbyville passed away Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Major Hospital.
Born December 25, 1935, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Orville Robert and Irene Edith (Sullivan) Branson. He married Jacquelyn June Sedam on December 9, 1955, and she survives.
Other survivors include his children, Gregory Wayne (wife, Bobbi) Branson of Batesville, Lisa Kay (husband, Russell) McCormick of Indianapolis and Brian Robert (wife, Dawn) Branson ofShelbyville; and grandchildren, Eric Branson, Zachary McCormick and trevor McCormick, Katherine Branson and Nicholas Branson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Branson served in the Army National Guard and retired from Farm Bureau Insurance Co. in 1990, after 37 years of service.
He graduated from Moral Township High School in 1953.
Mr. Branson was a member of Vine Street United Methodist Church. He was a member of Farm Bureau board of directors and also served as state ligislature coordinator, membership director, state voting delegate, trustee of Farm Bureau PAC, STOP coordinator and LIFT coordinator.
He was a former president of Shelbyville City Council; president of Shelbyville-Shelby County G.I. S. Board; member of Shelbyville-Shelby County Ambulance Board; and city Council liaison to Shelbyville Aviation Board.
Mr. Branson also served as co-chairman of the retail division of Shelby County United Way; and was past president of Indianapolis Underwriters Association, Shelbyville Band Boosters, Farm Bureau Retiree's Association and Moral Township High School Alumni Association.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Harvey Weaver and Perry Richards officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
