Paul E. Chapman, 83, of Morristown, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at his home.
He was born on February 21, 1925, in Hanover Township, Shelby County, in the same house where he resided for almost all of his life. The son of Ira E. and Mary Jane (Keaton) Chapman, he married Cena Cole on July 29, 1945, in Paris, Texas, where he was stationed with the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Paula (husband, Mark) Nigh of Shelbyville; a son, Kevin (wife, Aimee) Chapman of Carthage; six grandchildren, Carman (husband, Andrew) Hawk of Huntington, Carey Nigh and Ryan Nigh, both of Shelbyville, Jason (wife, Christa) Chapman of Wilmington, N.C., Justin (wife, Julia) Chapman and Cole Chapman, all of Carthage; and four great-grandchildren, Jacob Hawk, Chase, Jameson and Trinity Chapman.
Preceding hi in death were his parents and a sister, Dorothy Haseman.
Mr. Chapman was a semi-retired farmer. He also had done custom hay baling and silage chopping and hauled corn and bulk fertilizer in earlier years.
A WWII veteran, he served in the U.S. army as a motor pool driver in the 24th Infantry Division with the occupation forces in Japan. He was awarded the Victory Medal and was honorably discharged December 13, 1946.
A 1942 Morristown High School graduate, he was a member of the American Legion's Willard E. Hensley Post #102 in Morristown, the 24th Infantry Division Assoication, the Fountaintown Christian Church, and the Pioneer Engineers Club of Rushville.
Visitation will be at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St., Morristown, IN 46176 on Friday, June 27, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the funeral home, with Rev. Michael Smith officiating.
