Paul H. Wilcox, 87, of Shelbyville, formerly of Scottsburg, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was born April 5, 1928 in Brown Township, Washington County, Indiana, the son of Hiram U. and Hallie Hester (Baker) Wilcox. He married his wife of 68 years, Juanita M. Carr, on November 1, 1947, and she survives.
Paul is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Paula Wilcox of Shelbyville; sister, Mary Cabage of Venice, Florida; grandchildren, Jason A. Wilcox and wife, Beth, of Chicago, Illinois and Kimberly R. Leffers and husband, Benjamin, of Indianapolis; and great-grandchildren, Matthew Wilcox and Evelyn Leffers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jack A. Wilcox; brothers, John, Noble, Carroll, Les and Bruce Wilcox; and a sister, Edna Wilcox.
Paul was a member of Zoah Christian Church in Scottsburg and the American Legion.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a Tech-Sergeant based at Fort Bliss, Texas and Fort Ord, California.
Paul was a retired farmer and carpenter, having farmed in Shelby County for over 42 years. He was a member of Carpenters Local Union 60 and worked for Geupel-Demars Construction in Indianapolis.
He helped organize the first fire department in Fountaintown. He was a supervisor for Shelby County SWSC.
Paul enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting.
As requested, cremation has been chosen.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, friends may gather one hour prior.
Inurnment will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Campbellsburg, Indiana.
