Paul “Raymond” Kessler, 96, of Manilla, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Major Hospital.
He was born February 13, 1918, in Rush County, the son of the late Edward G. and Nora Christina (Theobald) Kessler. He married Marjorie K. English on August 30, 1941, and she preceded him in death on June 26, 1993.
Survivors include his sons, Robert W. Kessler and wife, Mary, of Rush County, Gene Kessler and wife, Kathy, of Bloomington, Ronnie Kessler and wife, Carol, of Shelbyville, Larry Kessler and wife, Kathy, of Manilla, Dale Kessler and wife, Kay, of Glenwood and Randy Kessler and wife, Michele, of Rushville; daughters, Jeralee Carlton of St. Paul, Janice Alvis and Cheryl Followell, both of Shelbyville; sister, Hazel Kessler of Waldron and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He attended Manilla High School.
Mr. Kessler was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.
He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 150 in Rushville.
Mr. Kessler was a Rush County farmer and ran a road grader for Rush County Highway Department until 1973. He owned and operated Kessler’s Market from 1968 until retiring in 1985.
He enjoyed woodworking and furniture restoration.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Rev. Don Bennett officiating.
Interment will be at Manilla Cemetery in Manilla, with military graveside rites.
