Pauline L. "Paulie" Wertz

Pauline L. "Paulie" Wertz, 82, of Shelbyville passed away Sunday, February 8, 2009. She was born August 18, 1926 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was the daughter of Chester and Grace (Leeds) Cummings. She married Homer "Bud" Wertz, Jr. on August 14, 1948 in Hanover, Indiana and he survives. Other survivors include sons, Terry (wife, Phyllis) Wertz of Mooresville, North Carolina and Greg (wife, Traci) Wertz of Mooresville, Indiana; daughter, Belinda (husband, Nick) Fairchild of Shelbyville; sister, Emily (Ken Foulke)Briggs; grandchildren, Chris (wife, Nicole)Wertz, Danielle Wertz, Nicholas Cooper, Monica Cooper, Garrett Wertz and Seth Wertz; and a great-granddaughter, Tiffany Wertz. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Chester Cummings and Roy Cummings; and sister, Eleanor Charlton. Mrs. Wertz graduated from Hanover College in 1948. She retired from teaching after 32 years, the last 16 years were at Shelbyville Central Schools. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as the first female Deacon. She was also a member of the Alpha Delta Pi and Delta Kappa Gamma Sororities and Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 73. Mrs. Wertz was an avid Bobby Knight fan, following his career through IU, Texas Tech and hopeful about his possible future with University of Georgia, where her granddaughter currently attends. She also loved the Colts and the Shelbyville Golden Bears. She enjoyed traveling, dancing and music. She was a very vocal supporter of her grandchildren and sideline coach for all of their athletic and academic events, often traveling nationwide to attend. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church, 124 W. Broadway Street, Shelbyville, IN. Funeral services will be at 11:30 am, Wednesday, February 11, 2009 with visitation one half hour prior to the service, at the church, with the Pastor Mark Morningstar officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Abiding Memorial Fund of First Presbyterian Church, 124 W. Broadway Street, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
