Phillip J. Sorrell, 77, of Shelbyville passed away Friday, November 12, 2010 at his home.
Born April 30, 1933, in Ogden, he was the son of William and Marie (Minnick) Sorrell. He married Deloris Dale on February 27, 1958, and she survives.
Other survivors include his sons, David (wife, Pam) Sorrell of Fort Wayne and Eric (wife, Elaine) Sorrell of Shelbyville; daughters, Becky Murnan and Carolyn Stoops, both of Shelbyville, and Stephanie Matzke of Indianapolis; sister, Lorene Moor of Rushville; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffrey A. Sorrell; sisters, Mildred Smith and Hildred Dearinger; and brother, Richard Sorrell.
Mr. Sorrell grew up in Rushville before moving to Shelbyville.
He was a tool and die maker for TRW Cinch for more than 30 years and employed at Great States from 1987 until retiring in 1997.
Mr. Sorrell was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean Conflict.
He graduated from Rushville Consolidated High School in 1952.
Mr. Sorrell was a member of First Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, where he was a deacon and served on several committees.
He enjoyed his family and working in the yard; he loved trips to Las Vegas.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, 124 W. Broadway St.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with Pastor Mark Morningstar officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery
