Phyllis Ann (Fager) Ellison of Greenfield, Indiana, and formerly of Shelbyville, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Kindred Transitional Care.
Phyllis was born in Andrews (Huntington County), Indiana on April 16, 1924, to Ruth (Jackson) Fager and Dr. James C. Fager.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her father, James C. Fager, her husband, Judge Robert (Bob) D. Ellison (February 15, 1984), and her mother Ruth (Jackson) Fager (October 7, 1984).
She was married Robert D. Ellison on August 24, 1951 in Bloomington, Indiana by Reverend Dr. Merill McFall. Robert was Judge of Shelby City Court from 1959 to 1962, Shelby Superior Court I from 1962 to 1970, and Shelby Circuit Court from 1970 to his retirement March 9, 1982.
Phyllis graduated from Huntington High School in 1942, Indiana University in 1946 (B.A.) and Butler University in 1959 (M.S.) She taught in the Shelbyville Central Schools from 1955 – 1986, retiring in 1986 after 31 years in the classroom.
Phyllis was a member of First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville. Throughout her years in Shelbyville, she had been an active Girl Scout Leader, member of PEO, Coterie, Psi Iota Xi and Retired Teachers’ Association. She was an admired and respected elementary teacher. Phyllis was an avid reader, loved to travel, and followed political news daily through newspapers and TV.
Phyllis Ellison is survived by her dear friends and caregivers, Larry and Priscilla McGuire.
Private graveside services will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, Indiana at some future date.
