Phyllis Jean Mathewson, 84, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, December 21, 2015 at her home.
She was born March 18, 1931 in Boggstown, the daughter of William and Frances (Allen) Bales.
Phyllis is survived by her daughters, Linda Carver and husband, Rick, of Kissimmee, Florida, and Kim Schramm and husband, Anthony, of Shelbyville; son, Tom Mathewson, of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Christi Rivera and husband, Manny, of Kissimmee, Chandra Abston and husband, Micky, of Shelbyville, Brent Carver of Kissimmee, Ryan Mathewson and wife, Nesetta, of Shelbyville, and Brandon Mathewson of Shelbyville; and great-grandchildren Tamara Felo, Wyatt Abston, Alianna Rivera, Emmanuel Rivera, Rylan Mathewson, and Kasen Abston. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Phyllis graduated from Boggstown High School in 1949.
She was a member of Beacon Baptist Church.
Phyllis retired from the finance center at Fort Benjamin Harrison, with over 20 years of service in 1988.
She was an amazing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was always smiling and making jokes. Her beautiful self will not soon be forgotten

Phyllis loved Indiana University basketball and Bobby Knight. She enjoyed politics, especially Marco Rubio.
To anyone that knew her, they will always have a place in their hearts for her due to her big heart. She raised her children by herself and later in life took great care of her mother. May she rest in peace and know she will be missed and forever loved by all who know her.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 24, 2015 at the funeral home, with Rev. Bill Horner officiating.
Interment will be at Boggstown Cemetery in Boggstown.
