Rae Ellen Williams, 86, of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington. She was born October 17, 1927, in Shelby County, the daughter of Ray and Helen (McNew) Vernon. Rae Ellen is survived by her daughter, Susan Newton of Shelbyville; son, Phillip Williams of Wilton Manor, Florida; sisters, Shari Mae (husband, Don) Meyers of Fairland and Mary Margaret (husband, Larry) VanMeter of Shelbyville; grandchildren, George Newton Jr., Jana (husband, John) Hansen, Toby Newton and Shawn Williams; great-grandchildren, Savana, Skye and Gabriel; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jo Ann Bowers; grandson, Stephen Williams; son-in-law, George Newton Sr.; and her companion of 40 years, Robert Wells. Rae Ellen graduated from Fairland High School in 1945. She was a member of New Life United Methodist Church. Rae Ellen was formerly a bookkeeper for General Electric, Shelby Dealers and KT Corporation. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 27, 2013 at the funeral home, with Pastor Ben Biggs officiating. Interment will be in Fairland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to IU Health Hospice House, 2810 S. Deborah Drive, Bloomington, Indiana 47403.
