Ray Pilk, 71, of Shelbyville, died Thursday, July 20, 2006, at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove.
Born Jan. 7, 1935, in Linton, he was the son of Albert Glen and Mabel V. (Malone) Pilk. He married Kathryn Goodin on Aug. 9, 1957, and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Jamie (wife, Laura) Pilk of Indianapolis and Darin Pilk of Shelbyville; four grandchildren, Amy Lynn Daughtry, Jamie Pilk Jr., Damon Bailey Pilk and Cal Ripken Pilk; three great-grandchildren, Tyler Pilk, Robert Daughtry and Jaylynne Daughtry; several nieces and nephews; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Pilk had been employed with Shelby County Highway Department, Shelby County Co-op, Shelby Bottled Gas Corp. and Knauf Insulation (formerly PPG), retiring Jan. 18, 2006.
He was active in Knothole League from 1974 to 1984, serving on the board of directors and as past president. He also was coach of the Blue River Lions baseball team.
Mr. Pilk was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving in France as a baker.
He attended Shelbyville High School.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Broadway Chapel, 232 W. Broadway St.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Alan Blakeburn officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery with military rites conducted by local veterans organizations.
