Rayburn "Wayne" Smith

September 27, 1950 — March 6, 2012

Rayburn "Wayne" Smith, 61 of Shelbyville passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Ashford Place Health Campus. Born September 27, 1950, in Muncie, he was the son of Noah and Lucy (Herron) Smith. He married Barbara Jean Pettit on August 11, 2001, and she survives. Other survivors include his daughters, Mindy (husband, Brian) Poole and Tammy (husband, Brian) Miller, both of Shelbyville, Jamie (husband, Brad) Werner of Brownsburg and Chelsea Smith of Indianapolis; step-daughter, Tammy Jo Holzhausen of Shelbyville; step-sons, Tim Holzhausen of Bargersville and David Holzhausen of Shelbyville; brother, Ronnie Smith of Muncie; sister, Doris Stevens of Muncie; nine grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Rayburn had worked at General Electric Wire Mill for 12 years, then at Knauf Insulation for 18 years. He was a member of Faith Trinity Church and of the Glass, Molders and Pottery union and local. Wayne like fishing and building cars. He also enjoyed motorcycles and building airplanes. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel,819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Rev. Perry Fouts officiating.. Interment will be in Miller Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Barbara Smith, 621 Miller St., Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
