Raymond S. "Chic" Anderson, 89 of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, January 4, 2008 at Ashford Place Health Campus.
Born August 15, 1918, in Shelby County, he was the son of Roscoe R. and Opal (Shadley) Anderson. He married Bernadine Wertz on December 24, 1958, and she preceded him in death on August 18, 2002.
Survivors include his daughter, Terie Anderson of Shelbyville.
He also was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Mr. Anderson had been a firefighter with the Shelbyville Fire Department for 32 years, retiring in 1980. Prior to that he had worked at Forest Hill Cemetery until 1940 and at Allison Division of General Motors from 1940 to 1947.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Mr. Anderson graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1937.
He was a member of First christian Church, American Legion Post No. 70 and Eagles Lodge No. 766, where he was a 50-year member.
Mr. Anderson was an avid sports fan.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Nathan D. Wilson officiating.
Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, with military rite conducted by local military organizations.
