The Rev. Mr. Howard Whitecotton III, 51, of Indianapolis passed away Saturday, February 18, 2012 at his residence. Born December 30, 1960, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Howard L. and Alice (Hausman) Whitecotton. He is survived by his mother of Indianapolis; and a selected brother, Kenny Neumeister of Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by his father. The Rev. Mr. Whitecotton was in the first graduating class of Lutheran High School, Indianapolis in 1978. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1983; he continued his education at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, where he received his Diploma and Master of Divinity on May 15, 1987. The Rev. Mr. Whitecotton has been an ordained minister for 25 years. He did his vicarage in Cleveland, Ohio and was called to New York for one year, then to St. Mark?s in Pendleton for approximately 10 years and has been ministering at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Shelbyville for the past 11 years, where he was a member. The Rev. Mr. Whitecotton spent one year teaching in Siberia on a missionary tour. He was also currently the Chaplain at Kindred (formerly Regency Place) in Greenfield. He had previously taught at Concordia University Extension in Mequon, Wisconsin. He was active in the Democratic Party, enjoyed golfing, fishing and shooting his hand gun. He also leaves behind his Great Dane, G. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Shirley Brothers Mortuaries and Crematory, Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St. in Indianapolis and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1560 N. Michigan Road, in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with The Rev. Mr. John Armstrong and The Rev. Mr. Ronald W. Baumann officiating. Committal will be at 2 p.m. in Kokomo Memorial Park, 1300 E. North St. in Kokomo. Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St., in Shelbyville. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1560 N. Michigan Road, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176. Online condolences may be shared at www.freemanfamilyfuneralhomes.com.
