The Rev. James H. Horner, 82, of Shelbyville died Friday, March 13, 2009, at Heritage House Convalescent Center.
Born March 8, 1927, in Johnstown, Pa., he was the son of Harry R. and Alice Ann (Haughton) Horner. He married Emma J. Smith, and she survives.
Other survivors include his sons, James H. (wife, Melinda) Horner and John M. Horner, both of Shelbyville, and William C. (wife, Vickie) Horner of Franklin; brother, William (wife, Doris) Horner of Johnstown; grandchildren, Jennifer Horner, Courtney Horner, Lindsey Horner Williams, Gregory Horner, Allison Coburn, Jessica Horner and John Horner; and great-granddaughter, Nia Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert Horner, Jack Horner and Harry Horner.
The Rev. Horner pastored at First Christian Church from 1958 to 1992.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard the USS Mississippi.
The Rev. Horner graduated from Johnstown High School in 1944, Kentucky Christian College in 1951, with a bachelor?s degree, and Butler School of Religion in 1958, with a doctorate of divinity.
He devoted his time to many organizations and received many distinctive awards over the years for community service.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Carmony-Ewing Chapel of Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St.; and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, 118 W. Washington St.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Revs. Nathan Wilson and Robert Pebley officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
