Dr. Richard C. Miller M.D., 93, died Friday, Aug. 12, 2005, at Greenwood Village South, in Greenwood.
Born July 29, 1912, in North Vernon, he was the son of the late Joseph Herman and Anna (Beer) Miller. He married Eileen Riggle on Dec. 27, 1941, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 10, 1994.
Survivors include one son, Richard C. "Rick" Miller II of West Lafayette; one daughter, Melissa (husband, Philip) Burroughs of Indianapolis; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by one daughter Susan (husband, Tom) Rudicel, two brothers and one sister.
Dr. Miller left Shelbyville seven years ago.
He had a medical practice in Shelbyville from 1945 until retiring in 1975. He previously practiced in Indianapolis during the early 1940s as a surgeon at Methodist Hospital. He practiced orthopedic surgery for two years with Dr. Ensminger in Indianapolis, then had a general practice at St. Vincent, Methodist and St. Francis hospitals.
Dr. Miller was a U.S. Army Air Corp. veteran, serving as a surgeon during World War II in Europe.
He graduated in 1929 from North Vernon High School, attended University of Louisville, graduated in 1934 from Indiana University and in 1937 from Indiana Medical School.
Dr. Miller was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Indiana University Medical School Honor Society; and member of Kiwanis Club, Sigma Nu at Indiana University Pharmacy. He previously was a member of Major Hospital's board of directors.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with the Revs. Rod Smith and Bob Hunter officiating.
Carmony-Ewing Broadway Street Chapel, Freeman Family Funeral Homes, 232 W. Broadway St., is handling the arrangements.
