Richard D. Butcher, 85, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Heritage House of Shelbyville.
He was born June 8, 1930, in Boggstown, the son of James Frank and Elsie (Anderson) Butcher. He married Fay Phifer on February 6, 1949, and she preceded him in death on June 3, 2003.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Fay Swift of Shelbyville; sons, Frank Butcher of Birmingham, Alabama and Wes Butcher and wife, Patty, of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Jason Swift and wife, Shelley, Douglas Swift and wife, Jenn, Joe Butcher and wife, Mallory, Jacob Butcher, Amy Dillon and husband, Heath, Lori Coffman and husband, Cliff and Jeff Butcher and wife, Amanda; granddaughter-in-law, Rachel Swift; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Joshua Swift; son-in-law, Russell Swift; and a daughter-in-law, Chiyoko Butcher.
Richard graduated from Boggstown High School in 1948.
He served in the Army National Guard.
Richard was a pipeline foreman for Texas El Paso for 29 years, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of Farmers Lodge No. 147 F&AM; and a former member of the Eagles and Moose Lodges.
Graveside services will be conducted at a later date at Boggstown Cemetery.
Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
