Richard Dale "Dick" Harrell

Richard Dale “Dick” Harrell, 67, of Taylorsville, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, while visiting family in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born December 24, 1953, in Shelbyville, Indiana to Dallas Herschel and Virginia Mae (Dale) Harrell. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 50 years, Terry “Terrie” Hummel Harrell of Taylorsville, KY. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four sons, Jason (Missy) Harrell, Nathan (Michelle) Harrell, Nicholas (Drue) Harrell, and Andrew (Lauren Gentry) Harrell; and a sister, Kay A. Pope of Waldron; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dallas Patrick Harrell; and brother-in-law, Steve Pope. Dick was employed by AT&T Long Lines and att in Louisville, KY. He retired in 2012, with 40 years of service. He was a Boy Scout Leader with BSA Troop 167, for over 20 years, where his sons all are Eagle Scouts. He often mentored other scouts many who became extended family. He enjoyed camping, hiking, and outdoor cooking. Since his retirement he enjoyed several oceanic cruises with his wife and family. He loved meeting people and never met a stranger. His bubbly personality, infectious laughter, and deep expressive voice often drew people to ask if he was in communications. Dick loved his family. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and all who called him Papa. He enjoyed his monthly luncheons with friends. Dick left a major hole in the hearts of all who loved him. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, October 10, 2021, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Van Pelt Cemetery in Shelby County.
