Richard F. Schneider, 96, of Shelbyville passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2015.
He was born October 13, 1918, in Shelbyville, the son of the late Aloysius “Al” and Charlotte (Rosenbarger) Schneider. On October 29, 1944, he married his wife of 69 years, Mary Carolyn Cayton, and she preceded him in death on September 5, 2014.
Richard is survived by his son, Dr. R. Alan Schneider and wife, Barbara, of Morristown; daughter, Sara Ann Smith and husband, Eric, of Eagle, Colorado; and five granddaughters, Dr. Jennifer Davis and husband, Peter, Melissa Schneider and significant other, Ben Coolik, Katie Marcoux and husband, Joe, Kelly Fleming and husband, Eric, and Kimberly Royle and husband, Nolan. Also, surviving are seven great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Estella Davis, Miako and Titus Marcoux, Avery Fleming, and Brody and Bentley Royle and a niece, Nancy Uriarti.
He was also preceded in death by an infant brother, James Schneider and a sister, Dorothy Conklin.
Mr. Schneider was a life-long Shelbyville resident. He graduated from High School in 1937 and attended Indiana University where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in World War II.
Mr. Schneider was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a life-member of the Shelbyville Elks Lodge.
He spent 37 years in the retail hardware business beginning with the J.G. DePrez Company in Shelbyville, then as a partner with the DePrez-Scott Company in Franklin and Rushville, Indiana. He served on the board of Directors of the Indiana-Kentucky Hardware Association and was president of the association in 1975.
In accordance with his wishes there will be no calling or funeral service.
Private graveside services will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville with Pastor David Humphrey officiating. Military graveside rites conducted by the local military committee.
