Richard K. Marshall

Richard K. Marshall, Shelbyville, died on August 30, 2014. Richard was born on July 8, 1929 to Wilbur and Fern Marshall who predeceased him. His grandson, Ronald Scott (Scotty), his buddy and joy, also predeceased him. Richard grew up in Rush County as well as spent several years in Blue Ridge, Indiana. He graduated from Waldron H.S. in 1947 where he played basketball and ran track. Richard married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Kathryn Runnebohm in 1950. Richard served in Korea from 1953-1955. Richard began his working career helping his grandfather, Walter Kuhn, farm and then purchased a milk route. Several year later Richard purchased his first dump truck hauling stone, gravel and dirt to residents of Shelby, Rush and Marion Counties. From his early business years, he then began a successful trucking enterprise, Richard Marshall Trucking, which he later sold in 1996. However, Richard couldn't stay out of his truck so he continued hauling stone with his one dump truck to long time customers. He hauled stone until 2010. Richard was a member of the St. Vincent Catholic Church and was active in the Knights of Columbus, Shelbyville. For years at lunch time you could find Richard's dump truck parked outside the K of C's at noon where he would eat lunch and play euchre with his buddies. In his later years, he met his friends daily at the Country Diner for breakfast at 6:00am. Richard is survived by his wife of 64 years, Kathryn (Runnebohm) Marshall, his daughters, Sheila Marshall, of Indianapolis, Sharon Scott, of Orlando, FL, and Susan (Michael) Lee, Ft. Wayne, IN and granddaughters, Mariel (Richard) Schroeder, Chicago, IL, Olivia, Chicago, IL, Julia, Kathlyn, Lynelle, and Abbie Grace Lee all of Ft. Wayne. Calling will be Sunday, September 7 from 2-6 with a celebration of life service at 5:30 at Freeman Family Funeral Home, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral Mass on Monday at 10 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 4218 E. Michigan Road, Shelbyville. Interment will be at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery in Shelbyville.
