Richard T. Cox, 72, of Shelbyville passed away Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Major Hospital.
Born July 24, 1936 in Shelby County, he was the son of Raleigh Elwood and Lona (Flick) Cox. He married Diane (Bennett) Cox on August 13, 1983, and she survives.
Other survivors include his daughters, Rhonda L. Cox and Regina L. (husband Bernardo) Zuniga, both of California, Judith D. Moore, Leslie A. Cox and Abbegail Lynn Cox, all of Shelbyville, Melissa D. (husband, Glen R.) Duke and Constance D. (husband, Tony E.) Redd, both of Shelbyville; step-children, Connie L. (husband, Scott W.) Wright, Wendi Andrews, Tina Spiegel and Jackie Crafton, all of Shelbyville; Randy (wife, Valerie) Tarrance of Elwood; brother, Raleigh E. (wife, Mahalia) Cox of Rushville and Bill (wife, Karen) Cox of Shelbyville; sister, Julie Burch of Waldron; 29 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-son, James "Buddy" Tarrance; step-daughter, Debria "Debbie" Andrews, brothers, Roy Cox, Charles Cox and Robert Paul Cox; sisters, Cathy Cox, Mary Lou Brown, Georgina Pogue, Virginia Williams and Thelma Keppel; grandchildren, Amanda Cox and Justin Kiefer.
Mr. Cox was a lifelong resident of Shelby County.
He was employed at KCL for 33 years, retiring in 1997.
Mr. Cox was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He also served in the National Guard as a cook, his rank was S6. His total combined years of service for his country was 21 years.
He graduated from Waldron High School in 1954.
Mr. Cox was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church.
He loved food, family, fishing and cooking.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St..
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Robert Rich officiating, with military rites.
