Richard Vernon Harris, Sr., 79, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, August 18, 2017 at his home with loved ones at his side.
He was born April 26, 1938, in Shelbyville, the son of Frank and Ellen (Price) Harris. They proceeded him in death.
On May 6, 1989, he married Doris Larraine (House) Harris, and she survives.
In addition to his wife, Rick is survived by his daughter, Rachelle Louise Ketchem and husband, John, of Shelbyville; sons, Bobby Harris and Richard Harris Jr., both of Shelbyville, Randy Harris and Tammy, of Geneva, and Roger Harris and Peter, of Carmel; step-daughters, Carol “Sue” Blair and husband, Thomas, of West Linn, Oregon, Sharon Reese and husband, Jerry, and Sandra Estes and Danny, both of Shelbyville; son, Rick Keller and wife, Paula, of Manilla; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
Rick was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church.
He formerly worked as an electrician and fabricator for J.R. Wortman and Stanley Bostitch.
Rick enjoyed working, whether he was making beautiful items with his woodworking talents or in his machine shop welding.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 24, 2017 at the funeral home, with Pastor Robb Barlow officiating.
Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
