Robert E. "Bob" Hilton, 67, of Shelbyville, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2005, at Indiana University Medical Center, in Indianapolis.
Born Aug. 23, 1937, in Indianapolis, he was the son of the late Omer B. and Artie B. (Evans) Hilton. He married Ruth Ann Kepley on Aug. 3, 1958, and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Timothy E. (wife, Debbie) Hilton of Nineveh and Andrew S. (wife, Kimberly) Hilton of Shelbyville; one sister, Beth Hilton of Indianapolis; and three grandchildren, Jacob A. Hilton, Emily Kaye Hilton and Miranda R. Hilton.
Mr. Hilton lived in Shelbyville since 1958.
He was a teacher and administrator and employed with Northwestern Consolidated School District from 1966 until retiring in 1997. He taught at the former Colescott Elementary School from 1963 to 1966 and prior to that in the Greenfield School District.
Mr. Hilton was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and a driver for Shelby Senior Services and Shelby County Cancer Society.
He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1955. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Franklin College in 1959 and a master?s degree from Indiana University.
Mr. Hilton was a veteran of U.S. Navy Reserves and U.S. Air Force Reserves. He joined the Navy Reserves in 1955 and retired from Air Force Reserves at Grissom AFB in 1989 as a Lt. Colonel.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Shelby County Historical Society, Indiana Retired Teachers Association, Reserve Officers Association, Shelby County Waste Management Board and Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, Freeman Family Funeral Homes, 819 S. Harrison St.
Private funeral services will be Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Campbell officiating. Military rites will be conducted by local service organizations.
Cremation will follow.
