Robert Eugene "Gene" Miller, 82, of Shelbyville passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011 at his residence.
Born December 6, 1928, in Richmond, he was the son of James Bradley "Brad" and Fanny M. (Hamilton) Miller. He married Phyllis "Jean" Parker on June 14, 1950, and she preceded him in death on May 17, 1987.
Survivors include his daughter, Lisa (husband, Bill) Hartung of Indianapolis; son, Brent "Boo" (wife, Theresa) Miller of Shelbyville; son-in-law, Scott Bell of Richmond; brothers, Norman E. (wife, Bonnie) Miller of Shelbyville and Duane E. (wife, Marian) Miller of Columbus; sister, Joyce (husband, Dale) Stone of Indianapolis; granddaughter, Sarah Peine; grandson, Tyler Bell; and four great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Beth Ann Bell.
He was a printer and production manager at the Shelbyville News for 45 years, prior to retiring in 1994.
Mr. Miller was a member of the Indiana Army National Guard Reserves for 26 years, retiring in 1976 at Lt. Colonel.
He graduated from Shelbyville High School.
Mr. Miller was a member of West Street United Methodist Church, an associate member of Fraternal Order of Police, Shelby Lodge No. 28 F&AM, where he was past master and had served as secretary, William Hacker Lodge No. 759 F&AM, York Rite Bodies, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Shrine, Shelby County Shrine Club, High 12 Club of St. Bartholomew Council No. 295 and Allied Masonic Degree in Franklin.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Monday, June 27, 2011 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St., with Masonic rites at 7:30 pm.
Funeral services will be at 10 am, Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at the funeral home, with Pastor Scott Bell officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
