Robert H. "Bob" Reese, 65, of Manilla passed away Saturday, January 31, 2009, at Major Hospital.
Born March 4, 1943, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Herschel T. and margaret (Bowerly) Reese. He married Tina L. (Weingarth) Vogel on March 11, 2000, and she survives.
Other survivors include his mother; daughter, Candace VanVolkenburgh; son, Gregory Hare; stepchildren, Jenell Coulter, Chris Bogel, Ryan Murphy, Sarah Murphy, Jessica Murphy, William Murphy and Mary Murphy; sisters, Marcia Alford and Cynthia Day; grandchildren, Mercedes Hare, Greg Hare, Jr., Nicholas Hare, Christopher Lathrop serving in the Air Force in Afghanistan, Austin Kohler, Garrett Canney, Alexis Kohler, Danielle Kohler and Hunter VanVolkenburgh; and 13 step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Mr. Reese was a field consultant for Champus Blue Cross and Blue Shield, retiring in 1997 after 10 years of service.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving from 1960 to 1985, was a medical administration supervisor and spent four years in medical recruiting.
Mr. Reese was a member of the American Legion Post No. 70, where he was second vice Commander and served on the honor guard; and Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 2695, where he was a past commander.
He enjoyed karaoke and devoted much of his time to writing and delivering speeches on behalf of the veterans.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Monday at the American Legion Post No. 70, 1125 S. Miller Ave., with the Rev. Dr. Mary M. Lundgren and Chaplain Chris Worland officiating.
Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, in Arlington, Va.
Services are entrusted to Carmony-Ewing Chapel of Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St.
