Robert Harold “Bob” Bishop, Jr., 82, of Indianapolis passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at IU Health Methodist in Indianapolis.
He was born August 8, 1938, in Indianapolis, the son of Robert Harold Sr. and Margaret (Betts) Bishop. On October 1, 1960, he married his wife of 60 years, Norma Jean (Lee) Bishop, and she survives.
In addition to Norma, Bob is survived by his son, Robert “Rob” Bishop III of Indianapolis; brother, Brad Bishop and wife, Lisa, of Venice, Florida; and cousin, Jane Betts of Bonita Springs, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bob graduated in 1956 from Shelbyville High School. He attended Franklin College, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Later, he attended Miami University in Coral Gables, Florida.
He was raised in the Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Masonic lodge.
Bob worked in retail for G. C. Murphy Co. for over 45 years. He began his career with G. C. Murphy Co. in Madison, then working at Indianapolis East Gate and followed by Frankfort. Bob then transferred to the Murphy Mart in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania and then Pekin, Illinois prior to retiring from McKeesport home office, in the Pittsburgh area. After retiring he was also a wholesaler, owning and operating Rob Sales, Inc. for 12 years, prior to retiring in 2012.
He enjoyed golfing and fishing. Bob also enjoyed watching Indiana University basketball and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
A gathering of friends will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, with a memorial service at 11 a.m.
A Celebration of Robert's life will follow at the Blue Bear Golf Course, 2660 N. Riley Hwy, in Shelbyville.
