Robert John "Bob" Zimny, 89, of Shelbyville passed away Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Ashford Place Health Campus.
Born October 11, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of John and Anna (Klawikowski) Zimny. He married Agnes G. "Mickey" Green on August 30, 1944, and she preceded him in death on July 13, 2002.
Survivors include his sons, Rick (wife, Vickie) Zimny and Dan (wife, Pamela) Zimny, both of Shelbyville; grandsons, Rob Zimny and Kevin Zimny; granddaughters, Christina Lux and Andrea Plant; great-granddaughters, Grace Lux and Eva Lux; and great-grandson, Jackson Lux.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, John Zimny and Lynn Zimny.
Mr. Zimny graduated from St. Rita's High School in Chicago in 1939 and received his teaching degree from Indiana University in 1951.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and played football in the service. After graduating from IU, he played professional football for five years.
Mr. Zimny began his teaching career in 1958 at Shelbyville High School, where he taught physical education, health and drivers education. He also coached football and track, retiring in 1983.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Robert enjoyed woodworking and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 am, Monday, August 15, 2011 at Forest Hill Cemetery, 704 Morris Avenue, Shelbyville, Indiana, with Father John Fink officiating.
