Robert Russell Carter, 91, of Tuscon, Arizona passed away Saturday, August 15, 2009 in Tuscon.
Born January 8, 1918 in Vandalia, Illinois, he was the son of Robert I. and Laura E. (Wall) Carter. He married Betty on May 29, 1954, and she preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Sue; step-sons, John and Russell; daughters-in-law, Donna, Cherie and Wanda, son-in-law, Ken; and 45 grandchildren or great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Renie, brother, Eldon; grandson, Allen and step-son, Billy.
Robert "Bob" Carter was considered to be truly a "jack of all trades."
He served his country from August 29, 1942 to September 29, 1945 in the U.S. Navy and was awarded the American Theater Ribbon and Middle Eastern Ribbon.
Mr. Carter worked in Indianapolis from 1945 to 1966 for Kingan Company and Meridian Heights Presbyterian Church. In 1966 he took a job setting up security for Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Florida, retiring in 1983.
He served the Lord by teaching Sunday school and serving as Elder after he answered the call to "Go West Young Man" in 1988. His wise counsel was sought after by many.
Mr. Carter served his family by being the best husband to Betty, the best father to Sue and the best step-father to John, Billy and Russell.
He's with the Lord now.
Visitation will be from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Miller Cemetery.
