Robert W. Westerbeck, 78, of Shelbyville passed away Sunday, November 18, 2012 at his home.
He was born February 23, 1934, in Shelby County, Ohio to Lloyd and Eunice (Fogt) Westerbeck. He married Doris Loy on August 21, 1955, and she survives.
Other survivors include his sons, Gregg (wife, Cathy) Westerbeck of Los Gatos, California and David (wife, Mary) Westerbeck of Indianapolis; brother, Ronald Westerbeck of Sidney, Ohio and four grandchildren, Alexa Westerbeck, Zachary Westerbeck, Sarah Westerbeck and Nicholas Westerbeck.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bob graduated from Anna High School in Anna, Ohio in 1952. He received his Bachelor of Science in Education from Defiance College and his Master’s of Science in Public School Administration from the University of Dayton.
He started his career as a teacher and principal at Whittier Elementary in Sidney, Ohio. He moved, with his family, to Shelbyville in 1972 to pursue a career in business with K.T. Corporation. He left K.T. Corporation to join Roberta’s Incorporated as a manager until 1990. During this time period until present, he was one of the founding partners of Landco Incorporated.
Bob and Doris joined First United Methodist Church in 1972; where he was currently serving as treasurer and member of the administrative board. One of Bob’s greatest loves was being a Boilermaker fan and was a loyal member of the John Purdue Club. Bob and Doris had enjoyed a long-standing membership in Wi-Hub. Bob had been a former member of the Shelbyville Lions and Elks Club.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He also enjoyed football, basketball, fishing and golf.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2012 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. and from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church, 34 W. Washington Street in Shelbyville.
A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Revs. Reid Walker and Bob Campbell officiating.
