Robert Wilson Ramey, 68, of New Palestine, died Sunday, October 17, 2010 in Fountaintown.
Born August 8, 1942 in Indianapolis, he was the son of Woodrow Wilson and Elizabeth Pauline(Hall)Ramey.
Survivors include his mother of Fountaintown; daughter, Melanie (husband, Rob) Botting of Kalamazoo, Mich.; son Tim Ramey of New Palestine; brothers, O.D. (wife, Susan) Ramey of Corpus Christi, Texas and Charlie (wife, Barbara) Ramey of Fairland; sister, Sharon Wells of Fountaintown; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.
Mr. Ramey graduated in 1960 from Morristown High School.
He retired in 1990 from the U.S. Army as a SFC-E-7 and also was in the National Guard and was a recruiter for eight years.
Mr. Ramey was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served with Company D 151st Infantry Rangers. He received the Bronze Star with Valor, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Airborne Badge, earned his Ranger tab, an Air Medal, and numerous other awards and commendations.
He was a two-term commander of the American Legion post in Fishers.
Mr. Ramey enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Frazier Chapel, 124 E North St. in Morristown.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Frazier Chapel, with Tom Ramey officiating.
Burial, with military rites conducted, will be in Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.
