Ronald B. “Ronnie” Lummis, 80, a lifelong Shelbyville resident, passed away Friday, October 18, 2013 at Major Hospital in Shelbyville.
He was born March 5, 1933, in Shelbyville, the son of Lawrence “Pete” and Elva S. (Logan) Lummis. On May 28, 1954, he married his wife of 59 years, Dannie B. Wheeler, and she survives.
Other survivors include his son, Scott Lummis of Fishers; daughters, Shara (husband, John) Weaver of Zionsville and Stacy (husband, Tony) Kitchin of Ferdinand; grandchildren, Aaron, Ashton, John Jr., Cory, Jamie, Luke, Clayton and Craig; and great-grandchildren, Anthony, Aubry, Liam, Carter, Chase, Rian, Reese, Miles, Mae and Noe.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Milan Lummis; and sister, Anna Lee Shepple.
Ronnie graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1951.
He was a U.S. Army Reserves Medical Corp. veteran, serving from 1951 to 1958.
Ronnie was a member of First Christian Church and a former member of Jaycees and the Shelbyville Elks Lodge.
He was an insurance agent and the former owner and operator of Boxes Plus, retiring in 1995.
Ronnie enjoyed golfing, playing cards, fishing and cooking. In 1975, he won the Shelbyville News cooking contest.
A gathering of friends will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
A Celebration of Life will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
