Rosamond J. Walton, 89, of Shelbyville passed away Thursday, November 19, 2009, at St. Francis Hospital and Health Center in Indianapolis.
Born February 24, 1920, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Edward C. and Jennie Mae (Shepple) Gaines. She married Carl Gordon Walton on July 24, 1947, and he preceded her in death on April 29, 1999.
Survivors include her son, Dale E. Walton of Indianapolis; daughter, Ann K. (husband, Tony) Sipes of Shelbyville; grandsons, Joshua Walton (wife, Kerry) Sipes of Royal Oak, Michigan and Jacob Worland (wife, Tiffany) Sipes of Shelbyville; and great-grandsons, Braxton Sipes, Beckett Sipes and Jason Sipes.
She also was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Howard Gaines.
Mrs. Walton was born, raised and lived on the family farm most of her life. She lived in Indianapolis for a short time while attending Indiana Secretarial College and then in California after getting married.
She was a homemaker and mother. She previously worked at Naval Avionics during World War II, Shelby County Clerk's office and the Chambers Corp.
Mrs. Walton graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1937, where she was May Festival Queen.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Marion Township Home Economics Club, Kappa Kappa Sigma and Bridge Club.
Mrs. Walton loved her family and farm life and enjoyed reading, playing cards and talking to her friends. She was a fan of Indiana University Basketball and the Colts, and loved watching golf on television.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Robert Land officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
