Rosemary “Rosie” (Hogan) Dean, 75, of Fairland, passed away Friday, May 20, 2016 at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis, after fighting a battle with ovarian cancer to the end.
She was born October 12, 1940, in Indianapolis, the daughter of James Edward and Leona M. (Barton) Hogan. On September 20, 1958, she married her husband of 57 years, Charles “Bernie” Dean, and he survives.
Rosie is also survived by her daughter, Melinda Pennycuff and husband, Paul, of Shelbyville; son, Michael Dean of Shelbyville; brother, Robert F. “Bob” Hogan of Indianapolis; granddaughter, Jennifer Dean; great-granddaughter, Justice (Dean) Meal; several nieces and nephews; and a host of wonderful friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mark Dean; four brothers and four sisters.
Rosie graduated from Harry E. Wood High School in Indianapolis in 1958.
She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and volunteered in the church office. Rosie was also a member of St. Rose of Lima Circle No. 79 Daughters of Isabella and St. Ann’s Altar Society. She also served for three years on the St. Joseph Church Council.
Rosie worked at Indiana Workforce Development Center, retiring with 32 years of service.
She was the co-owner of Dean’s Dry Cleaning.
Rosie volunteered at UnaVie Center for Major Hospital.
She enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.
She like to help people and often did so through her volunteering.
Rosie also leaves behind her dog, Sophie.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, with the rosary recited at 3 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St. in Shelbyville.
Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Shelbyville.
