Ruby Catherine Houston, 93, of Shelbyville passed away on Monday, September 17, 2012 at Heritage House Convalescent Center.
Born November 3, 1918, in Scott County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Jesse Davis and Gail (Sparks) Smith. She married Paul Houston on May 28, 1939, and he preceded her in death on October 29, 2000.
Survivors include her daughter, Paula (husband, Ron) Cooper of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Nate (wife, Robin) Holdren, Lynn (husband, Richard) Fox, Laurie (husband, Donnie) Wilson and Patricia (significant other, Burke Sandman) Marsh; great-grandchildren, Kelly (husband, Kelly) Sizemore, Alan Fox, David (wife, Melissa) Fox, Michael Fox, Gracie Wilson, Paul Wilson, Alex Marsh, Houston Marsh and Andrew Holdren; great-great-grandchildren, Evelyn Sizemore and Luke Fox.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Grace Young; and a great-great-grandson, Evan Fox .
Mrs. Houston graduated from Franklin High School in 1936 and attended Business College in Indianapolis.
She retired as a bookkeeper from Todd Bennett, after 16 years of service in 1983.
Mrs. Houston was a member of Eastern Star in Shelbyville and Junior Coterie.
She enjoyed antiques, ceramics and needle work; and she loved to travel and spend time with her family.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2012at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2012 at the funeral home, with Pastor Robb L. Barlow officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
