Russell Lloyd Steffey, 88, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, March 16, 2015 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus.
He was born April 25, 1926, in Hancock County, the son of Samuel Roy and Goldie Mae (McCarty) Steffey. On November 3, 1948, he married his wife of 57 years, Patricia J. Russell, and she preceded him in death on March 8, 2006.
Russell is survived by his sons, Kevin Steffey and wife, Ria, of Brownsburg and Neil Steffey and wife, Jacque, of Seattle, Washington; daughters, Rhonda Dippon and husband, Darrell, of St. Paul, Minnesota, Jama Schmitt and husband, David and Dana Joiner and husband, Alan, both of Shelbyville; brother, Max Steffey and wife, Barbara, of Ft. Meyers Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Joshua, Lucas, Derek, Dawn, Rachel, Justin, Jordan, Tricia, Megan, Carly, Dane, Adam, Blake and Zachary; 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles Clayton, Ora Clayton, Wayne Clayton, Emil Steffey, Ray Steffey and Francis Steffey; and sisters, Pauline Drake, Bernadine Hill and Meredith Whisman.
Russell was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during World War II.
He was an electrical worker for Local Union #481 I.B.E.W, retiring in 1988.
Russell was an active member of several Masonic organizations and American Legion Post No. 102.
He enjoyed golfing, reading, furniture restoration and caning.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, with Masonic Ritual at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2015 at the funeral home, with Rev. Bill Horner officiating.
Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, with military graveside rites conducted by the local military committee.
