Ruth Elizabeth (Waltermire) Nigh

Ruth Elizabeth (Waltermire) Nigh, 100, of Fountaintown passed away Friday, July 27, 2018. She was born September 26, 1917, in Shelbyville, the daughter of Dr. Tell C. and Maude (Bebout) Waltermire. On September 23, 1939, she married Robert William Nigh, and he preceded her in death on March 6, 1999. Ruth is survived by her sons, Michael William Nigh and wife, Judy, of Brownsburg, and Stephen Brett Nigh and wife, Sue, of New Palestine; and grandsons, Douglas William Nigh and Matthew Wayne Nigh. In addition to Robert, Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Eloise Waltermire; brother, William Nelson Waltermire; and grandson, Brett Andrew Nigh. After graduating from Shortridge High School in 1935, Ruth worked at Davidson’s Indiana Fur Company for several years. Ruth was a member of the Fountaintown Christian Church. She and Bob were members of the Indiana Geology and Gem Society in their rock hounding days. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Ruth was an avid reader and loved traveling the American West especially southern Utah. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St. in Morristown. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Mike Smith officiating. Interment will be at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Indiana, Advancement office, 435 Limestone, Indianapolis, IN 46202.
