Ruth I. Eberhart

March 12, 1917 — September 3, 2005

Ruth Ione Eberhart, 88, of Shelby County, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital, in Beech Grove. Born March 12, 1917, near Flat Rock, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Elsie (Warner) Scott. She married Roy Bernard Eberhart Nov. 28, 1942, in Birmingham, Ala., and he preceded her in death in April 1984. Survivors include three daughters, Rebecca (husband, William) VanHandle of Greenwood, Sara (husband, Kerry) Spurlin of New Cambria, Mo., and Susan (husband, Gary) Schonfeld of Shelbyville; seven grandchildren, Kelly Davis, Rodney Tucker, Bradley Spurlin, Heather Baker, Mandi Donahue, Brian VanHandle and Elizabeth VanHandle; and seven great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Fulkerson. Mrs. Eberhart had been a resident at the Masonic Home, in Franklin, for the past six years. She graduated in 1935 from Columbus High School and from Indiana Business School, in Indianapolis. Mrs. Eberhart had been a nurse at Camp Atterbury during World War II and a farmer with her husband near Mount Auburn until 1969. She then was employed by Admiral Corp. (later Rockwell International). She was a member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church and the Shelby County Sportsman Club. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Carmony-Ewing Harrison St., Chapel, Freeman Family Funeral Homes, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Clapp officiating. Burial will be in Flat Rock Cemetery.
