Ruth L. McClanahan, 76, of Shelbyville, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005.
Born Jan. 17, 1929, in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late George and Annarose Strand. She was married to Roland M. ?Mac? McClanahan for 58 years, and he preceded her in death in March of 2005.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen (husband, Thomas E. Gruhl) McClanahan-Gruhl of Zionsville and Sanibel Island, Fla., and Pamela (husband, Dr. John P. Elcik IV) McClanahan-Elcik of Wellington, Fla.; one son, David Michael (wife, Nancy I.) McClanahan of Shelbyville; one sister, Karen Lawler of Indianapolis; and two grandchildren, John Paul ?JP? Elcik V and Michelle Kathleen Elcik.
Mrs. McClanahan was raised in Chicago and lived most of her life in Indianapolis and Shelbyville.
She and her husband owned the Mary Carter Paint franchises in Indianapolis, during the 1960s.
Mrs. McClanahan was a member of P.E.O., Job?s Daughters, Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and numerous bridge groups.
She loved to entertain, travel, read, sew, needlepoint and play the slot machines in Las Vegas and the riverboat casinos in Southern Indiana.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, Freeman Family Funeral Homes, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gary W. Huffman officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
