Ruth M. Higgins Crane, 92, of Shelbyville passed away Friday, April 23, 2010 at Major Hospital. Born April 3, 1918, in Shelby County, Indiana she was the daughter of Melville M. and Laura Opal (Poe) Shadley. She married Norman Higgins on November 18, 1939, and he preceded her in death on May 18, 1972; she married William Eddie Crane on May 31, 1980, and he preceded her in death on June 24, 1994. Survivors include her children, Richard A. (wife, Barbara) Higgins of Raymore, Missouri and Sharon K. (husband, Daryl) Bernard of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Carmen (husband, Doug) Drake and Deanna (husband, Tom) Nuthak, both of Shelbyville, Kris (wife, Tangody) Fewell of Waldron, Cheryl Higgins of Kansas City, Missouri and Brian (wife, Virginia) Higgins of St. Louis, Missouri; and six great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Cecil Franklin Shadley; and sister, Katherine Graul. Mrs. Crane was a lifelong resident of Shelbyville. She was the former owner of Northside Liquor Store and was a homemaker. Mrs. Crane was a member of Eagles Auxiliary # 927 in Greensburg; Home Economics Club and American Legion Auxiliary #70, both in Shelbyville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5635 West 96th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, Indiana 46278.
