Sarah “Pricey” Matney, 88, of Morristown, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Morristown Manor in Morristown.
Pricey was born October 23, 1924, in Whitewood, Virginia. She was the daughter of Wallace and Hester Martha (Mullins) Horn. She married Henry James Matney in July of 1944, and he preceded her in death on November 11, 1976.
She is survived by a daughter, Martha (husband, Steve) Clabough of Arlington; sons, James Henry “Junior” Matney and Jerry “JW” Matney, both of Shelbyville, David (wife, Kathy) Matney of Arlington and Virgil (wife, Sherry) Matney of Carthage; son-in-law, Don Waggoner of Gwynneville; sister, Elizabeth (husband, Clayton) VanDyke of Cedar Bluff, Virginia; brothers, Arthur Horn of Pilgrims Knob, Virginia and Albert (wife, Shirley) Horn of Vansant, Virginia; 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Pauline Waggoner and Judy Faye Matney; son, Jackie Matney; daughter-in-law, Diane Matney; sister, Tricia Ratcliff; brothers, Lee Horn, Bascom Horn, James Horn and Noah Horn.
Pricey was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Shelby County; and also attended Gwynneville Christian Church. The Horn family was very involved in church activities when she was growing up in Virginia.
She was formerly employed at KCL Corporation in Shelbyville for five years; and Morristown Canning Factory for five years.
Pricey enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting and embroidering. She also enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 29, 2013 at the funeral home, with Rev. Jack Clay officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
