Sherman Williams, 84, of Morristown died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at St. Vincent Hospital North, Indianapolis.
Born June 5, 1922, in Shelby County, he was the son of James Allen and Allie (Kidd) Williams. He married Virginia Hasler on Oct. 3, 1953, and she survives.
Other survivors include his sister, Mary Louise Buchanan; and several nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Edna (Williams) Moore and Mae (Williams) Eades; brother, Noble Williams; half sisters, Estel (Kenton) Wright, Olga (Kenton) Spurling, Dorothy (Kenton) Myers and Verda (Williams) Wagner; and half brothers, Edgar Kenton, Albert Kenton and Clancy Williams.
Mr. Williams was a lifelong resident of Shelby County.
He had been employed with Borden Milk Co. for 47 years, retiring in 1987.
Mr. Williams was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a medic. He had been awarded the Bronze Star and fought in five European battles, beginning with the Normandy Invasion.
He graduated from Morristown High School in 1941.
Mr. Williams was a member of the American Legion William Hensley Post No. 102 in Morristown and Morristown Christian Church. He was a former member of the Lions Club.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Asbury Cemetery in Morristown, with Pastor James Coyle officiating. Military rites will be conducted by local veterans organizations.
A gathering of friends will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the American Legion Post No. 102, 339 W. Main St. in Morristown.
