Sherra Mae Alford, 71, of Flat Rock died Thursday, November 27, 2008. Born May 21, 1937, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of W. Harold and Ruth (Keith) Alford. Survivors include her sisters, Ruth (husband, Robert) Smith of Edinburgh, Jane Alford of Flat Rock and Alicia (husband, Larry) Platt of Sugar Hill, GA; 30 nieces and nephews; 50 great-nieces and -nephews; and seven great-great-nieces and -nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Barbara Taylor; brothers, Robert "Pete" Alford, Donald "Jim" Alford, Paul "Sam" Alford, and Ronald "Ronnie" Alford; a great-niece; and a great-nephew. Ms. Alford was a lifelong Shelby County resident. She retired from Plastic Moldings in 1999. She previously had been employed for many years at Overhead Door and the former Garment Factory. Ms. Alford loved camping and collecting lighters. She also enjoyed spending time with her family. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison Street. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kirby Rupp officiating. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.
