Sheryl "Sherry" Alvis, 58, of Shelbyville passed away Monday, January 11, 2010, at her home.
Born December 19, 1951, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Charles W. and Virginia E. "Ginny" (Piper) Davis.
Survivors include Benjamin Giat, Kelly Alvis and Patrick Alvis, all of Shelbyville, Nicholas Giant of Indianapolis and Craig Alvis of Waldron; sisters, ElDona Wiley, Rita Thornberg, Judie Fisher, Sue McDonald and Polly Snyder; and grandson, Marshall Giant.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Ms. Alvis was raised in Shelby County.
She had been employed at Major Hospital and other hospitals and was a volunteer at Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Ms. Alvis graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1970 and Purdue University in 1974, as a registered nurse.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella.
Ms. Alvis was a supporter of the Sheblyville-Shelby County Animal Shelter and enjoyed cross stitch, sewing, crafts and gardening.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St., followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m., with Father Chris Craig officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
