Retired Col. Stanley Roy Spreckelmeyer, 63, of Shelbyville, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born Oct. 12, 1942, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Oscar E. and Thelma L. (Gibbons) Spreckelmeyer. He married Yantis A. "Yannie" Yarling on Aug. 28, 1976, and she survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Michael (wife, Dee) Peters and Shane Peters, both of Shelbyville, and Jeffrey Peters of Greenwood; one daughter, Pamela (Peters) (husband, Brian) Moody of Indianapolis; two sisters, Ella Spreckelmeyer and Mary (husband, Howell) Cole, both of Greenfield; one brother, John (wife, Linda) Spreckelmeyer of Hendersonville, Tenn.; and six grandchildren, Joseph Peters, Kaleb Johnson, Cole Johnson, Samantha Johnson, Lacey Moody and Cameron Moody.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Albertine Walton.
Mr. Spreckelmeyer had served with the Indiana Army National Guard for more than 30 years and was a master Army aviator. He has served as the Aviation Support Facility commander in Shelbyville, 38th Division Support Command commander and director of Army Aviation for the Indiana Army National Guard, retiring in 1997.
He attended Purdue University and received a bachelor's degree from New York University.
Mr. Spreckelmeyer was a lifetime member of the National Guard Association of Indiana and member of Masonic Lodge No. 28, Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine. He was a past member of the Elks Country Club.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m., with Masonic rites at 8 p.m., Wednesday, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robb L. Barlow officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, with military rites conducted by local veterans organizations.
