Stephen Michael Douglas, 53, Carmel, Indiana, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2011, at St. Vincent Hospital. Born in Shelbyville, Indiana, on April 20, 1958, Steve was the son of the late Michael Humphreys Douglas and Janice Tungate Douglas. Following graduation from Shelbyville High School, Steve joined the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the U.S.S. Farragut as enlisted personnel cook and Captain?s private cook. He received his Associates Degree in Culinary Arts and worked as Executive Chef for the Marriott Hotel in Indianapolis for 15 years. His passion for all things culinary served him well as Chef and co-owner of MIRANS Café in Carmel, where he created and happily fed wonderful meals to customers and employees for six years.
Steve touched so many people with his kind, peaceful nature and generous spirit, and he knew no stranger. The most important part of his life was family and a favorite quote of his was, ?Other things may change us, but we start and end with family.? He loved and was very proud of his children; the people they are and the accomplishments they achieved. He will be forever loved and remembered by his wife, Natalie Kuhn Douglas, children, Shannon and husband Josh Miller, Ashley Douglas and Eli Cohan, Isabel Gies and Adam Loyd, and his ?buddy boy?, Camden Douglas. Steve?s close relationships with his beloved sisters and brother-in-law, Kelly and Bruce Willard and Gail Sexton were very important to him and gave him great joy. He loved and will be remembered by his nieces and nephews, Jeana and Andrew Craft, Jess Willard and Betsey Flores, Haley Oskins, Whitney Oskins, and Grant Werner.
Steve shared a special bond with his Kuhn family siblings, nieces and nephews. His life-long friends, Teresa, Kirk, Brian, and Vance and their children were a significant part of his life and he will be loved and missed by all.
Friends may gather from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 21st, 2011, at the West St. United Methodist Church, 629 S. West St. in Shelbyville, Indiana, for a memorial services at 11 a.m. at the church, with the Revs. Carl Ewick and Perry Richards officiating.
