Stephen "Steve" Pope

Stephen L. "Steve" Pope, 64, of Waldron passed away Friday, August 26, 2011 at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born May 30, 1947 in Shelbyville, he was the son of Jack L. and Patricia Ann (Mohr) Pope. He married Kay Ann (Harrell) Pope on September 27, 1949, and she survives. Other survivors include his parents of Waldron; son, Chris (wife, Shannon) Pope of Waldron; daughter, Meghan Pope of Waldron; and grandchildren, Bradley Pope, Kayla Pope and Skyler Peetz. He was a lifelong Waldron resident and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Pope had worked in maintenance for Indiana Department of Transportation for the past 10 years; after working at Pope's LP Gas for 41 years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving in Thailand during the Vietnam War. Steve was a member of Waldron Methodist Church and a 25 year member of the Waldron Volunteer Fire Department. He graduated from Waldron High School and attended Vincennes University. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Monday, August 29, 2011 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 10 am, Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at the funeral home, with Pastor Robb Barlow officiating. Interment will be in Van Pelt Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 6100 West 96th Street, Suite 200, Indianapolis, Indiana 46278 or Waldron Volunteer Fire Department.
