Stephen W. Switzer

Stephen W. Switzer, 58, of Shelbyville passed away Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Major Hospital. Born March 25, 1953 in Indianapolis, he was the son of William D. and Anna Mae (Eck) Switzer. He married Susan (Keel) Pittman on January 4, 2003, and she survives. Other survivors include his daughter, Stephanie (husband, Mark) Stanton of Shelbyville; stepson, John Pittman of Shelbyville; stepdaughter, Virginia (partner, Angie Johnson) Pittman of Franklin; granddaughter, Rachel Pittman of Franklin and best friend, Keith Meltzer of Fountaintown. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Switzer was a lifelong Shelby County resident and graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1971. He was a farmer and drove a school bus for Southern Hancock School Corp. in New Palestine. Mr. Switzer was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. Stephen enjoyed farming and had a collection of small John Deeres. In the past, he had shown livestock at the Shelby County 4-H Fair. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 26, 2012 at the funeral home, with Pastor John Wessic officiating. Interment will be in New Palestine Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Shelby County 4-H Advisory Council for Livestock Barns, 1600 E. State Road 44, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
